Correct choice of foundation!

It’s a big problem for Indian skin tone to find the correct color of foundation. I get lots of questions from my clients about it. Though I guide them personally but thought to post it as well.

Here is some basic questions which comes in mind when selecting a foundation;

  1. I want to look fairer than my natural skin tone, can I use lighter shades of foundation??

Ans: It is completely “No, No”. You can’t use any shade lighter than your skin tone, else you’ll end up looking grey and completely fake. Foundations are not to make you fairer rather it is to hide the blemishes and uneven tone of your skin.

  1. Which foundation should I use to cover all my facial flaws?

Ans: Well, there are lots but I would suggest top five which I generally use while doing Bridal or any party makeup.

  • RCMA- it is made with 50% pigment whereas others are just 15 to 18%. Also, it provides full coverage and a little quantity goes long. This is the first choice of professional makeup artist, including me:-)!
  • Lancôme- This also provides full coverage and gives a natural glow.
  • Mac studio fix- This is also recommended by most of the Indian makeup artist.
  • L’Oreal inflammable- This foundation stays 24 hours and also gives high coverage.
  • Makeup forever HD foundation- In the world of photography, you can go for this as well. Though this will not provide you the full coverage but you can use it with concealer and can go glamorous.
  1. How to choose perfect match of foundation??

Ans: This is the big and very common question among Indian women. Since most of our Indian skin is olive tone so you should go for yellow base foundation. Try the shade at your jaw line or neck instead of testing it at your hand.

When you go to a cosmetic store they intend to try it on your hand but don’t get cheated. Try yourself at your jaw line.

  1. Why do I look darker than my own complexion after some time of application of foundation???

Ans: This happens because most of the foundations have the properties to get oxidized. So, use the silicon base primer before you use it. Primer will not only let you foundation stay for long but it also creates a bridge between the layer of foundation and your skin’s natural oil(which is the contributing factor of oxidation of foundation). Also, never use sunscreen before foundation.
